I have a love of FX makeup, it's the one kind of art I am not too bad at. So the other day I decided I would share with you a wound tutorial. I posted three last year in the run up, (which are still getting views now,) so I thought I should show you at least one this year!
For this wound I used:
- Liquid Latex
- Toilet Paper/Tissue
- Foundation
- Concealer
- Translucent Powder
- Cake Blood
- Red, White and Black Face Paint
- Fake Blood
- Black Eyeshadow
- Moisturiser
To start off I washed my hand thoroughly and used my Garnier Micellar Water just to make sure there was nothing on my hand that could stop the latex sticking properly. I then moisturised the area where I would be creating the wound.
Using an old makeup brush, or qtip, apply latex over the back of your hand. Stopping just on the wrist and just before reaching the fingers.
Take one sheet of toiler paper and place it over the latex, pressing down to create texture. Let this dry, you can use a hair dryer to speed up the process.
Once dry, rip away the paper that is not attached to the latex. It doesn't matter if it is messy as it gives the wound a more realistic look.
Repeat the latex and tissue application 5-6 times to create a stable wound. (If you don't want the wound to be as sturdy, making it harder to reuse, the step need only be repeated a couple of times.)
Next you need to map out where the bones are, (look at where your fingers are and draw a line slightly diagonal,) once you're done rip up bits of tissue and roll it into a kind of squashed cuboid come cylinder shape, and stick it in lines across the lines of latex. These will later become the 'bones.'
Continue adding the tissue until you have completely covered the lines of latex so it looks like the picture above.
Add a sheet of tissue over the whole wound and then cover in latex. This adds texture and depth to the wound.
Rip the excess tissue off and start to smooth the paper down with latex to help it to blend into the skin.
Add a powder over the top, this stops the latex sticking to itself.
Next take a foundation that matches your hand and using a sponge apply all over the wound as well as near the edges.
Next take a black eye shadow and line the sides of the 'bones,' this adds depth to the bones and makes it appear more like it has been ripped open.
This is where the real fun begins! Take a pinky/red eye shadow or blush on a sponge tipped applicator, (e.g the awful applicators you get in palettes,) and push the product onto and around the whole wound, only missing the 'bones.'
Take your cake blood on an old makeup brush and place it all over the places that you just smudged the eye shadow to add a more liquidy look.
Choose where you want the wound to be darkest and apply black paint in random 'blobs' ready to be blended into the red.
Once blended in you might want to go back over the bones with a white paint and foundation mix to create an off white colour.
To finish add fake blood all throughout the bones and voila!
However, if you want to reuse the wound you'll need to carefully remove the fake liquid blood using a tissue. Once you have done this, carefully peel the wound off your hand being careful not to break it. I then recommend letting the wound dry out on a windowsill or radiator. Next time you want to use it just paint it with a couple of layers of latex and stick it back on. You may want to blend it into the skin again using cake and fake blood, but it shouldn't take much! Enjoy freaking people out!
